“In traffic, what’s your ride? ” is the motto of the Yellow May state campaign | Correio dos Campos

WITH ADVISORS – During the Grand Session of the Plenary Session this Monday (06), the board of directors of the Paraná Traffic Department (Detran/PR) occupied the podium to present the actions scheduled for the month of May throughout the state with the motto “ In traffic, what is your role? ” which brings the message that everyone can make a difference on the streets and roads.

The invitation to Detran/PR was made by deputy Hussein Bakri (PSD), author of State Law No. 18,624/2015, which established “Yellow May” in Paraná. “We bring this warning and the Assembly is playing its role here by kickstarting the Campaign together with Detran. It’s a month dedicated to awareness, it was approved by law, including mine, in 2015. But what we need to focus on is that the decision is in our hands. The decision between life and death is in our hands. The decision to pick up a cell phone and read a message is in our hands. The decision to change the car stereo, the decision to step on the accelerator more, the decision to be reckless and these decisions have no turning back. The big theme here is awareness, making people understand and think carefully before choosing recklessness.

Yellow May aims to draw everyone’s attention to the high rate of traffic accidents, promoting actions to reduce deaths. Detran Paraná, in the state campaign, seeks to be the link that unites various actions and initiatives with schools, departments, city halls, organized civil society institutions, security forces and society in general, to encourage discussion about the importance of security in the traffic for all road users. The state of Paraná was the first state in the federation to join the National Plan for Reducing Traffic Deaths and Injuries (Pnatrans) in 2021, which is aligned with the global road safety agenda. The national plan is committed to reducing Brazilian traffic deaths by at least 50% by 2028, preserving approximately 86,000 lives in this period.

The administrative-financial director of Detran/PR, Carla Cristina Filus, presented the campaign at the Assembly and highlighted the importance of raising awareness. “Yellow May is nationally known as the month in which we discuss public policies to reduce deaths and injuries in traffic. This year the theme is “peace in traffic starts with you”. Therefore, make each driver, road user, pedestrian aware, in short, the decision is his, because that second decision he has to make is very important. You can’t play in traffic, nobody can play, so it’s in this sense that we want to raise awareness among the entire population.”

The campaign

The approach to Yellow May 2024 in Paraná is an invitation to reflect on the attitudes of citizens as drivers, motorcyclists, cyclists or pedestrians, encompassing everyone involved in traffic. A series of educational activities will take place, such as lectures on the theme Vision Zero, the concept that the loss of life in traffic is not acceptable and that all deaths and serious injuries are avoidable through appropriate actions and measures; Safe Roads, which involves a series of measures and practices to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries on public roads, such as reducing speed, and the National Plan for Reducing Traffic Deaths and Injuries – Pnatrans.

In addition, interactive activities are planned with Detranzinho for students in the 3rd year of elementary school; participation of the robot mascot Rod in events; use of a rollover simulator showing in practice the importance of wearing a seat belt; in addition to offering virtual glasses and raising awareness about the risks of alcohol in traffic. Also scheduled are blitzes, storytelling for children, joint actions to curb the misuse of cyclists and pedestrians in canals, and the Anjos project, an action that alerts parents to the importance of correctly using child restraint devices.

It will feature the presence of robot mascot Rod and influencer @detranpreduca, with the theme “Seat Belt, Vulnerability of the human body”. There will be a presentation of the Detranzinho and Detran na Escola projects.

Rattlesnake – Date: May 8 (evening) 9 and 10 (morning and afternoon) at Unioeste – R. Universitária, 1619. It will feature the presence of the robot mascot Rod and the influencer @detranpreduca with the theme “Peace in traffic begins with you” .
