Abel Ferreira reacts to Luis Guilherme’s goal in Palmeiras’ comeback over Del Valle
The clenched fists almost touching the pitch and then brought to the chest drew attention when Endrick celebrated the goal scored against Independiente del Valle, last Wednesday, in the Conmebol Libertadores. But what’s behind the gesture?
The striker innovated in the celebration and it should be seen more often in the player’s next goals.
On social media, he posted the image with the caption “Kong”, and in an interview, he confirmed what some suspected: the new celebration is in honor of the movie character “King Kong”, a giant fictional monster, which resembles a gorilla.
– It’s because I saw the King Kong and Godzilla movie, which is “New Empire”, and I’m a big fan of Kong and Panther, too. So it’s a new celebration for me – said Endrick, in Ecuador.
On social media, Endrick adopted a gorilla emoji in his biography. The animal is accompanied by a tornado, which represents the brand of its sports equipment sponsor.
The character “King Kong” is known for his physical strength and ability to destroy everything in sight. In football, Endrick’s main characteristic is strength, and he decided to incorporate this into the celebration and as a brand.
Endrick’s celebrations are close to coming to an end wearing the Palmeiras shirt. The striker has until July 21st, when he turns 18, to defend Verdão and transfer permanently to Real Madrid, in Spain.
The player is already starting to prepare for the transfer and the emotions he will have to deal with when saying goodbye to the team friends he will leave behind in Brazil.
– We are not a team, we are a family. I even joke that we spend more time together than with our family. And on Monday we are already seeing the same people – commented Endrick.
GE Palmeiras debates the team’s resilience
With the goal last Wednesday, Endrick was just one away from reaching another goal in the sales contract. For every five goals scored, whether for Palmeiras, the Brazilian team, and/or for Real Madrid, Verdão earns 2.5 million euros (R$ 13.7 million).
He currently has 19 goals for Palmeiras and Seleção since he was sold in November 2022 – the limit of the agreement is 25 goals.
