One of the fighters MMA most popular today, Sean O’Malley also seeks to be successful in a traditional sport. The bantamweight champion (61 kg) of UFC, who defended his title for the first time in March, in Florida (USA), has already stated that he wants to venture into boxing against Ryan Garcia, star of the sport. Now, the athlete reveals what is needed for the hypothetical duel to become reality.

Excited after watching his rival’s victory over Devin Haney, last Saturday (20), ‘Sugar’ projects that, to face him, he needs to not only win, but also shine in his next appearances in the Octagon.

Honestly, the athlete admits that his popularity is still not enough to lead him to star in a media boxing fight, like the one in Conor McGregor against Floyd Mayweather, in 2017. At least, the American said he achieved the most difficult thing, that is, authorization from the UFC to carry out the crossover between sports.

“I’m not there yet. I still have to become bigger. Two more insane performances and then we’ll talk about being able to do whatever you want. The UFC told me I can do a boxing match, 100%, if it makes enough money. So the option is there, you just need to be able to generate enough money. But Ryan being such a freak, you need two sides to make a fight like Mayweather and McGregor”, declared the UFC champion, on his podcast ‘TimboSugarShow’.

O’Malley’s MMA Record

Sean O’Malley, 29, is the UFC bantamweight champion and one of the most popular fighters in MMA. The American was revealed on the ‘Contender Series’ program. ‘Sugar’ began his career in MMA in 2015, debuted in the company in 2017 and built a record consisting of 18 wins, one loss and one ‘no contest’. His main triumphs were over Aljamain Sterling. Marlon Vera and Peter Yan.
