Official announcement by Rodolfo Landim launches SAF in Rio de Janeiro and sale of mengão

Rodolfo Landim is in his last year in charge of Flamengo’s Presidency, and to have a significant change, he wants to make a huge change in the club’s management.

Of course he can be re-elected, but, thinking about the possibility of leaving Flamengo, perhaps he wants to prevent future bad management.

In a great financial organization, Landim fears that the next managers will carry out a bad organization and end up sinking Flamengo into debt.

That’s why the idea of selling the club started to become viable in recent months, despite the project not moving forward.

At the end of last year, according to information from GE, a meeting of the Deliberative Council once again brought to light the possibility of creating a SAF in Flamengo.

The model is seen by Rodolfo Landim as a way to finance his own stadium. At the end of the meeting, the president used his personal trajectory to justify why he defends the implementation of the model at the club.

An established businessman in the oil sector, the president used his professional experiences to convince the advisor who questioned him. The audio of this final part of the meeting was obtained by the website Mundo Rubro-Negro.

“You can believe it or not, but it is a discussion that I think in the future we will be able to have with all the partners, and the decision will not be mine, it will not be yours, we will have two votes, we will have all the Flamengo to be able to vote on this and decide if he understands that it is worth it. Flamengo is neither mine nor yours, Flamengo belongs to all of us who are owners of the club!”and continued:

“You have to choose what you do. If you want to have a stadium and don’t want to go into debt, you have to raise capital. And there is nothing better than raising capital for Flamengo at the moment, but not by selling a title at 15 thousand reais, but rather raising funds by opening a share of 500 thousand reais for each value of the title. That’s all I want to say. The way to grow wealth is not to sell securities for 15 thousand or 20 thousand reais. It is by issuing shares to dilute the partners, but maintaining control of the partners, but for a much higher value”, completed.

During an interview with CBN, in March of this year, Landim cited the models of Botafogo, Cruzeiro and Vasco as examples that Flamengo will not follow.

According to him, the club does not need to sell control of football to another owner.

For the red-black president, the SAF in Brazil came with the mission of “saving the clubs from bankruptcy”. Still in Landim’s view, the model that Flamengo could follow is that of Bayern Munich, selling up to 25% to attract resources to build the stadium and, still, continue “controlling” football.

“The (Flamengo) stadium will come out with or without SAF. The discussion is: what is the way to do this while maintaining control of football? I am an advocate, perhaps the biggest at Flamengo, that the club does not keep the sports association controlling football. When people associate the image of SAF as a solution to save clubs from bankruptcy… you see Botafogo, Cruzeiro and Vasco selling % and completely losing control of football. I understand that Flamengo has no reason for this”said Landim, citing Bayern as an example.
