More than 600 accidents were recorded on federal highways in TO in 2023
In 2023, the Federal Highway Police recorded 628 traffic accidents on stretches of highways that pass through Tocantins. In that same period, 251 cases were considered serious and 70 people died.
This month, the PRF must carry out actions related to Yellow May, which proposes raising awareness and discussing traffic safety. This year the theme of the police campaign is “peace on the road starts with you”. The actions must be carried out in schools in several municipalities in Tocantins.
Increase in deaths in accidents
According to data from the State Traffic Department (Detran), 5,399 accidents and 581 deaths were recorded throughout 2023, a higher number compared to 2022, which had 543 deaths.
During the year, more than 4 thousand notifications of accident victims were made. All people spent more than 24 hours in hospital. These numbers directly impact the state’s public health, as daily expenses for hospitalized people range from R$1,273 to almost R$3,000.
The state will also carry out an awareness campaign during Yellow May.
