Rio – A group of tourists fought with locals on the edge of Copacabana, South Zone of Rio, on Monday night (1). The confusion occurred between Colombians and Brazilians in front of the Hilton hotel, on Avenida Atlântica, close to where players from Junior Barranquilla, who face Botafogo in the Copa Libertadores this Wednesday, are staying.
A video circulating on social media recorded the fight. In it, you can see around ten people exchanging punches and shoves. A woman tries to calm the spirits of those involved in the confusion.
At one point, a tourist falls to the ground unconscious after being attacked. One of the attackers even kicks him in the head and then leaves towards the beach, on the other side of the street. At the time of the fight, there were no police at the scene.
According to the Military Police (PM), agents from the 19th BPM (Copacabana) were called, but when they arrived, the confusion had ended and those involved were no longer at the scene. According to the PM, policing has been reinforced in the region.
O DAY tries to contact the Hilton Hotel, but has not yet received a response. The space remains open for demonstrations.
