Federal deputy Carlos Roberto Rodrigues (PP), known as Bebeto, was caught in the middle of a shootout in the early afternoon of this Wednesday, on Avenida Comendador Teles, in Vilar dos Teles, in São João de Meriti. According to preliminary information, Bebeto was crossing the street when two men on a motorcycle came towards him. A police friend who accompanied Bebeto reacted to the suspects, there was a confrontation and the men fled. The case was registered at the 64th DP (São João de Meriti).

Bebeto said he left home to buy lunch for his wife. He had been taking the route he knows for years, having always lived in the region.

— When I crossed the street, a motorcycle passed by with two allegedly armed men. Then I shouted at two friends who were with me “call it, pay it”. After that, they [os suspeitos] They got up on the sidewalk and came towards me — explained the deputy.

According to Bebeto, a police officer friend was with him and reacted, exchanging shots with the suspects.

— My friend approached the suspects and they immediately started shooting. I can’t say it was an attack, since I wasn’t hit, but it didn’t seem like just a robbery. The street was full — reported Bebeto.

The deputy explained that his police friend accompanied him to the police station and presented the weapon used. One of the suspects was reportedly injured in the exchange of gunfire, according to Bebeto. During the morning, he participated in several appointments in Belford Roxo, also in Baixada Fluminense.

In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the victim was interviewed and efforts are underway to clarify the circumstances and who committed the crime.
