Cruzeiro trained at Toca da Raposa and embarked, in the early afternoon, towards Quito for their debut in the South American Championship, on Thursday, at 9pm, against Universidad Católica. Strikers Arthur Gomes and Juan Dinenno are left out of the trip.
Cruzeiro lives its debut week in South America and decides in the classic
They are the only players among the starters who are left out of the match in Ecuador. Cruzeiro played on Saturday, against Atlético-MG, in the final of the Campeonato Mineiro, and will decide the title, against their biggest rival, next Sunday, less than 48 hours after arriving from Quito.
The natural substitutes are Barreal and Rafael Papagaio. In Arthur Gomes’s place, on the left side of the field, Robert runs on the outside in the fight with the Argentine, played by Larcamón in the team’s last two games.
The main new addition to the list is left-back Kaiki, who is available for the first time this season, after recovering from a muscle injury suffered in January, while playing for the Brazilian Olympic team. Midfielder Vitinho, who was left out of the classic by choice, also returns.
Despite taking the other starters, it is not guaranteed that Larcamón will stop making other changes to the team taking into account Sunday’s final. Cruzeiro travels by chartered flight, in order to minimize wear and tear, but Quito is 2,800 meters above sea level, at an altitude felt by some athletes.
Cruzeiro will still carry out the last work for Thursday’s match in Quito. In addition to the wear and tear caused by the sequence of games, adaptation to the situation in the Ecuadorian city will also be taken into consideration when defining the players who will take the field.
