The new heat wave that hits Brazil in the last days of April is expected to extend and impact thermometers in several cities in Minas Gerais until May 10th. The alert was extended by Climatempo this Monday (April 29). Initially, the heat wave was expected to last until this Wednesday (May 1).

According to a map released by Climatempo, cities in the Triângulo Mineiro, Alto Paranaíba, Zona da Mata, Sul de Minas, metropolitan and Central regions should be affected by temperatures more than 5°C above normal.

This is the fourth heat wave to hit Brazil recently. High temperatures are considered atypical at this time of year, when the heat is usually less intense due to the lower incidence of solar radiation and shorter days. However, according to Climatempo, this heat wave is bringing typical summer temperatures to the Brazilian autumn, defying the usual climatological expectations for the month of May.

Climatempo explains that the heat wave occurs when the high pressure system at medium levels of the atmosphere continues to block the advance of rain over the affected areas, in addition to intensifying air circulation, which prevents the formation of intense rain clouds and raises temperatures even further.
