Palmeiras launches campaign against hate in football
Palmeiras announced this Thursday a campaign against hate inside and outside football. Referring to the club’s name, the campaign was called SomosSociedade and aims to combat any type of discrimination or violent act, promoting peace between people.
This measure was adopted in the face of a current scenario in which several hate crimes committed within football and outside it are being discussed, such as the racist attacks suffered by Vini Jr. in Spain, and xenophobic offenses directed at coach Abel Ferreira .
President Leila Pereira, recently returned from Europe, where she was head of delegation for the Brazilian team, reinforced the campaign’s power.
– We hope that our campaign will help raise awareness in society about the extremely dangerous times we are living in on and off the field. We cannot accept that football becomes an environment of prejudice and violence, with increasingly frequent cases of discrimination and hatred. We will only be able to turn this game around if we combat impunity, which is the seed of the next crime – declared the president.
As a way of further publicizing the campaign, in the match against Novorizontino, at Allianz Parque, valid for the semi-final of the Campeonato Paulista, Verdão will wear a shirt made especially for the campaign, highlighting the white of peace and the symbol of equality applied in the middle of the chest.
In addition, banners in the stands and a flag in midfield will be extended before the duel that counts for a place in the final of the Campeonato Paulista.
