Madrid (Spain) – Three Brazilians compete in the doubles bracket of the WTA 1000 in Madrid. Luísa Stefani resumes her partnership with the Dutch Demi Schuurs. They will be the 3 seeds of the tournament. Already Beatriz Haddad Maia and Ingrid Martins will play together on the clay courts of the Spanish capital. Bia is the tournament’s current doubles champion, as she won the title alongside Victoria Azarenka last year.
Champions of the first WTA1000 of the season, in Doha, Stefani and Schuurs debut against Poland’s Magda Linette and China’s Shuai Zhang. If they win, they could face Chinese Xinyu Wang and Saisai Zheng or Romanian Monica Niculescu and North American Alycia Parks.
In the same quadrant of the bracket are Bia Haddad Maia and Ingrid Martins, who debut against the Spanish Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes, seeds 8 in Madrid. If they win, they could face Taiwanese Hao-Ching Chan and Russian Veronika Kudermetova, champions of Stuttgart, who will debut against the Chinese pair of Hanyu Guo and Xinyu Jiang.
On the same side of the bracket are the tournament’s 2nd seeds, Australian Ellen Perez and North American Nicole Melichar-Martinez, who face Russians Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Anastasia Potapova. They have North Americans Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk in their quadrant, who face Croatian Donna Vekic and Russian Elena Vesnina, former number 1 in doubles.

Ranking leaders, Belgian Elise Mertens and Taiwanese Su-Wei Hsieh are the main seeds and face North American Asia Muhammad and Indonesian Aldila Sutjiadi. They are in the quadrant of Latvian Jelena Ostapenko and Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok, seeds 5.
North Americans Coco Gauff and Taylor Townsend will be seeded 4 and will face Hungarian Anna Bondar and Slovak Tereza Mihalikova. They could face fellow Americans Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands in the second round, who will face compatriot Ashlyn Krueger and New Zealander Erin Routliffe. The quadrant also includes the Czech Barbora Krejcikova and the German Laura Siegemund.
