Carlos Sainz finished the Miami GP Formula 1 in fourth place, a stage in which the British from McLaren Lando Norrisbut the result of the pilot Ferrari It could change tonight.
The Spaniard was locked in a fierce battle with Oscar Piastri after the race was restarted following a safety car period caused by a crash between Williams’ Logan Sargeant and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen.
Sainz and Piastri battled for several laps and were on the verge of a collision when the Australian fended off an attack from the Spaniard, an action which the stewards decided did not warrant a penalty despite the Ferrari driver’s complaint over the radio.
A few laps later, Sainz entered the inside at turn 17 to overtake Piastri and the result was slight contact between the two drivers which caused damage to the McLaren driver’s front wing.
As a consequence, Piastri had to pit and lost any chance of finishing the race in the points, while Sainz was placed under investigation a few laps later by Race Management, who indicated that the maneuver would be analyzed after the end of the GP.
Sainz continued the race and crossed the finish line in fourth place. Commissioners said the Spaniard must appear at a hearing at 6:45 pm Miami time to give his opinion on the Piastri incident.
