Miami (USA) – In the first match this Thursday at the Masters 1000 in Miami, German Alexander Zverev asserted favoritism and ended the party of Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, who reached the quarterfinals of the tournament defeating two top 10 players, but was no match for the number 4 seed and fell with the final score of 6/3 and 7/5, after 1h39 of confrontation.
Zverev is now waiting for the last quarterfinal match to find out who his opponent will be in the semis. His next rival will come from the clash between the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who is riding high after winning Indian Wells, and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.
If victory goes to Alcaraz, it will be only the seventh time that the four main favorites of a Masters 1000 reach the semifinals together, the first in Miami (counting since 1990). This hasn’t happened since 2021, when Daniil Medvedev (seed 1), Stefanos Tsitsipas (2), Zverev (3) and Andrey Rublev (4) played semis in Cincinnati.
It will be the German’s 17th appearance in the semi-final of a Masters 1000, with 10 wins and 6 losses so far, and his second in Miami, where he was runner-up in 2018. Zverev will try to overcome the penultimate round for the first time this season, after falling at this stage at the Australian Open, eliminated by Medvedev, and in Los Cabos, defeated by Jordan Thompson.

The match was balanced, especially in the second set, which was only defined in the final stretch. Despite the defeat, Marozsan had nine more winning balls (29 to 20) and just three more unforced errors (8 to 5). But Zverev’s performance with the serve made the difference, with 71% success against 62% for his rival.
In the first set, the German managed a break in the third game, saved a break point in the sixth and yet another break in the ninth and last to make it 1-0. The second half was more even than the first, with a chance break avoided by each side until Marozsan served pressing at 5/6 and ended up losing the service and the game.
