The mass of hot and dry air that remains over much of the Southeast and Central-West regions of Brazil, in addition to the north of Paraná, caused Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) to issue this Saturday (27) an orange alert for danger for high temperatures.

The document shows that the area that encompasses the entire state of Mato Grosso do Sul, the south of Mato Grosso and Goiás, west of São Paulo and north of Paraná will have temperatures that can remain 5ºC above average for up to five days. The current forecast is valid until next Wednesday (1st).

This atmospheric condition also guarantees sunny days and low air humidity at the end of the month, which will end with no rain forecast. The first week of May also promises to be hot and dry, due to the atmospheric blockage imposed by the high pressure system.

“The mass of hot, dry air continued in this more central area of Brazil. Due to the lack of rain and the high pressure system, it ended up causing temperatures to rise, becoming the criteria for a heat wave warning”, explains the meteorologist from Inmet Dayse Moraes, highlighting that if the heat wave lasts for more than five days the alert turns red.

She says that Inmet meteorologists meet daily to reassess weather conditions. Therefore, she states, there is still the possibility of this heat wave lasting longer and even reaching other regions. This, however, will be confirmed later.

According to Inmet’s forecast, the capital that will have the highest temperatures until Wednesday is Cuiabá (MT), with a sequence of 36°C, 37°C, 38°C and 39°C, starting this Sunday (28) . Campo Grande (MS) will also be hot, with maximums of 34°C, 35°C, 36°C and 36°C.

Cities in the west of São Paulo will also suffer from the heat wave. In Presidente Prudente, for example, the maximum is expected to reach 35ºC this Sunday, rising to 36ºC in the following three days. In Araçatuba, temperatures rise daily: 34ºC this Sunday, 35ºC on Monday and Tuesday, and 36ºC on Wednesday.

In the capital of São Paulo, the forecast was already to be above 30ºC until May 4th, but Inmet updated the forecast and the maximum from Sunday until Wednesday will be 33ºC, with the weather muggy and low air humidity.

In fact, on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Inmet, humidity could be below 30% throughout the heat wave area, which is critical. The WHO (World Health Organization) establishes that air humidity levels below 60% are not suitable for human health. Therefore, it is recommended to stay hydrated and avoid being exposed to the sun from 10am to 4pm.
