Already in the final stretch of his career, Marcelo Moreno, 36 years old, returned to Cruzeiro for a period of training at Toca da Raposa II and for a farewell game with no set date yet. The management of Sociedade Anônima do Futebol (SAF) treated the striker’s return as retribution for the contribution he made to the club during an economically difficult phase of the association in 2020, with a loan of R$18 million. But the agreement between the parties goes much further.

In September last year, Moreno obtained a favorable decision from the Court in the Cruzeiro Judicial Recovery process. The value of the club’s updated debt, which was R$24,985,483.00, increased to R$ 33,477,700.66.

In the Judicial Recovery, Moreno was classified as an unsecured creditor, one who has a credit not guaranteed by any type of real or preferential guarantee, such as mortgages, pledges or personal guarantees.

A Itatiaia learned from a source linked to the club that Marcelo Moreno’s return to Toca da Raposa II is part of an agreement between the parties to pay the debt.

Investor in the Sociedade Anônima do Futebol, the businessman Pedro Lourenço, from the Supermercados BH chain, will pay 60 monthly installments of R$600,000 to the attacker. In five years, the amount corresponds to R$36 million.

Moreno’s sporting goal

In addition to recovering the money lent to the association in 2020, Marcelo Moreno would also have a sporting objective in his return to Cruzeiro. During the three months of the contract signed with the SAF, the striker intends to prepare to return to the Bolivian National Team to compete in the Copa América in the United States, between June 20th and July 14th.

despite announced the retirement of the Bolivian National Team in November 2023, Moreno would be willing to return to complete his cycle in the Copa América. He himself left this possibility open days after resigning in the game against Uruguay in the South American Qualifiers.

The detail is that, to return to the national team, Moreno needed to be active and linked to a club. Through the agreement, Cruzeiro opened up this possibility to the player.

Marcelo Moreno is the Bolivian national team’s top scorer, with 31 goals in 108 appearances.

In the Copa América, Bolivia is in Group C, with the United States, Uruguay and Panama.

If everything goes well, this will be the fifth edition of Copa América played by Marcelo Moreno. The Bolivian defended “La Verde” in 2011 (Argentina), 2015 (Chile), and 2019 and 2021 (both in Brazil).

Initially, Marcelo Moreno’s participation in official Cruzeiro matches has been ruled out. The striker’s alignment with the SAF management foresees, in fact, the holding of a festive farewell game with the blue shirt on a date to be scheduled.
