Man wanted for double homicide in Santa Rita de Minas is arrested in Zona da Mata

A 29-year-old individual, involved in a shootout that resulted in the death of two people in the rural area of ​​Santa Rita de Minas, including a criminal from Timóteo, was arrested by the Military Police of Muriaé on Saturday night (27), in BR-116, entrance to the Gaspar neighborhood, in Muriaé, in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais. WVS was one of four individuals who went to a rural road on two motorcycles and approached a Kombi transporting rural workers. The target was the driver who, armed, repelled the bullet attack.

Military Police from the city of Caratinga, in contact with the 47th battalion, reported that a man suspected of a double homicide in Santa Rita de Minas was fleeing from Ipatinga to Rio de Janeiro in a blue Chevrolet Blazer.

Armed with the characteristics of the vehicle, Muriaé’s military set up a siege in Rio-Bahia and managed to approach the car.

During a personal search for the suspect who was a passenger in the Blazer, the police found two marijuana cigarettes in his pocket.

“We received information from the 62nd BPM that the fugitive was moving from Ipatinga to Rio de Janeiro. We approached the vehicle, he did not resist arrest, but gave a false name. Afterwards, he ended up confessing his real name and it was confirmed that he was indeed the individual who had an arrest warrant issued by the courts”, detailed Sergeant Rafael Augusto, in an interview with reporter Gilson Júnior, from Rádio Muriaé.

In a survey using the computerized public security system, police officers confirmed that the suspect in the double homicide has an extensive criminal record and is considered highly dangerous.

Examination at a hospital confirmed that the detainee has a gunshot wound in one of his arms, probably caused by the exchange of gunfire in the rural area of ​​Santa Rita de Minas.

“The arrest was a result of an ongoing information gathering action between the 62nd BPM of Caratinga, the FICCO of Governador Valadares and the 47th BPM, based in Muriaé. Since the date of the crime that occurred in the rural area of ​​Caratinga, soldiers from the 62nd Battalion have intensified the production of information in an attempt to locate and arrest the perpetrator”, informed the 62nd BPM communications department.

Crime in Santa Rita de Minas

As reported by Diário do Aço, the crime occurred on Thursday morning (25), when four individuals on two motorcycles approached a van carrying rural workers to harvest coffee.

Apparently the driver of the Kombi was armed, reacted to the ambush and an intense exchange of fire began with the four individuals. One of the workers died in the shooting, Paulo Nunes Neto, 24 years old, who was originally from the state of Bahia and was in the van. Matheus Pimentel Rocha, the Microbe, aged 26, also died.

Originally from the Petrópolis neighborhood, in Timóteo, Matheus had several police experience, including bodily harm, drug trafficking and robbery. Furthermore, he was being investigated as a suspect of involvement in homicides, the last one, on March 29th, Good Friday, in which the victim was Marco Antônio Alves, aged 43, in the Ana Moura neighborhood.

Kombi driver reported himself to the police

After the shooting, the three individuals who survived fled on foot and abandoned the two motorcycles they used to carry out the ambush. The Kombi driver fled the scene of the crime. However, accompanied by a lawyer, the driver presented himself on Friday (26) at the Caratinga Civil Police Station. The delegate working on the case, Sávio Moraes, informed the Caratinga press that, in principle, the driver was a victim, as he was the target of the attack and shot to defend himself from the attackers, who were four in number. The individual arrested in Muriaé would be one of the four involved.
