Bill 101/2024, authored by state deputy Marcio Fernandes (MDB) and co-authored by parliamentarians Lia Nogueira (PSDB), began to be processed this Thursday (9), in the Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso do Sul (ALEMS). ), Mara Caseiro (PSDB), Antonio Vaz (Republicans), Caravina (PSDB), Coronel David (PL), Jamilson Name (PSDB), Junior Mochi (MDB), Lucas de Lima (PDT), Neno Razuk (PL), Professor Rinaldo Modesto (Podemos), Renato Câmara (MDB) and Roberto Hashioka (União). The proposal establishes actions to encourage the production, use and generation of renewable energy within the State of Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to the text, the purpose is to expand the supply of energy from renewable sources, sustainability, the efficiency of production systems, the promotion of the local economy and the generation of new businesses in the agricultural sector of Mato Grosso do Sul. In the justification Parliamentarians cite that Brazil is an example when it comes to producing clean and renewable energy. What developed countries seek today to replace the production and consumption of non-renewable energy has been done by Brazil for many years, which has made it one of the world leaders in energy transition.

In the proposal, it is emphasized that Brazil is one of the few countries that has a National Biofuels Plan, RenovaBio, an ambitious project that aims to decarbonize the transport sector and improve efficiency.

In relation to Mato Grosso do Sul, its potential is listed: “Created in 1977, it was born as a producer of ethanol, a biofuel produced from sugar cane, an activity that expanded in the 80s and the credential as a frontier of Bioenergy in the country. In this context of expansion, in the last 20 years the sugar-energy sector has undergone several transformations that involved the total elimination of burning sugarcane straw, as well as the implementation of new technologies, practices with low environmental impact and agricultural efficiency and industrial. Currently, Mato Grosso do Sul has 19 sugar-energy industries in operation and since 2016 has been the 4th largest producer of ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil and, more recently, became the 2nd largest producer of biofuel from corn. In the current harvest, biofuel production in the State should reach approximately 4 billion liters and sugar production exceeded 2.1 million tons”.

The text highlights the contribution of the Bioenergy sector, the importance of the State Incentive Plan for the Development of Renewable Sources of Energy Production – MS Renovável and the leading role of the green agenda in the country in the search for energy independence, replacement of fossils and reduction of emissions of CO2 through the decarbonization of its fleets and increasingly sustainable production.
