Sentenced to four and a half years in prison for sexual assault, Daniel Alves was released on provisional release last Monday (25), after paying bail of one million euros (around R$5.4 million). But after all, how long will he be free?

There is no exact date to define when the appeals will be judged, but, according to the Spanish newspaper “Marca”, the Brazilian could be about a year waiting in freedom.

As the case must go through the Superior Court of Justice and, eventually, the Federal Supreme Court, the most likely scenario is that the final decision will only arrive in early 2025.

To date, Daniel Alves’ sentence is four and a half years in prison (54 months). As he has already served 14 months of this sentence, and under Spanish law, pre-trial detention cannot exceed half of the sentence (27 months), the final sentence should take around 13 months to be announced.

Even though he was free, Alves had his passports withheld and must appear in court weekly. Until the sentence is final, the former player will enjoy this provisional freedom. It is worth highlighting that the days of provisional release do not count towards the possible sentence.
