With this Saturday’s results, Brazil finished the Parapan American archery tournament in first place in the medal table with six golds, four silvers and four bronzes. The United States came in second with three wins and a runner-up finish.

Six medals on Friday

In addition to the eight medals won this Saturday, the Brazil won three gold, two silver and one bronze in teams on Friday. Andrey de Castro and Jane Karla were champions of the compound bow mixed doubles, Lindiara Weischung and Tércia Figueredo won the women’s recurve, while Eugênio Franco and Helcio Perilo were champions of the men’s W1.

Eugênio Franco and Juliana Cristina Ferreira were silver in the mixed W1 and third places came in the mixed recurve bow and the men’s compound, with Tércia Figueredo/Tiago Pinheiro and Andrey de Castro/Reinaldo Vagner Ferreira, respectively.

The best performance among the Brazilians who competed in the Parapan-American archery competition was from Jane Karla. She was the only one to climb the highest place on the podium twice. After winning the mixed contest with Andrey de Castro, she struggled to win the women’s compound arch. In the final, victory only came with the arrow of death.

Jane Karla and Colombian Mariana Zuñiga were tied at 136 points after the three series of the decision. In the tiebreaker, the two hit ten, but the Brazilian’s arrow was closer to the center, giving her the gold medal.

The curious thing is that Jane Karla had already defeated another opponent in the arrow of death. In the semifinal, she beat Ecuadorian Diana Gonzabay 9-8 in the tiebreaker after they had scored 135 points during the match.

More diamonds

Reinaldo Charão, who will be Jane Karla’s partner in the mixed competition at the Paralympic Games, won the gold medal in the men’s compound at Parapan. In the decision, he beat Mexican Gerado Rodriguez 142 to 133.

Brazil also took the team gold medal in the men’s recurve. Tiago Pinheiro and Luciano Rezende beat Canadians Jean François Lavergne and Shawn Matheson 6-2 with scores of 30/26, 27/31, 37/11 and 29/23.

Silver in the arrow of death

The most painful defeat in this Saturday’s finals came in the women’s recurve. Lindiara Weischung tied with Colombian Maria Monica Guzman 5-5 with splits of 21/22, 25/23, 22/21, 22/22 and 15/23). In the arrow of death, the Colombian athlete scored 7, while the Brazilian, who won the silver medal, scored 6.

The other silver medals of the day took place in the W1 class. In the men’s category, Eugênio Franco lost to the American Jason Tabansky by 131 to 127, while in the women’s category, Juliana Cristina Ferreira was defeated by Tracy Otto, also from the United States, by 108 to 60.
