The Consumer Debt and Default Survey (PEIC), developed by the National Confederation of Commerce of Goods, Services and Tourism (CNC), points out that, in the month of April, the index of indebted families in the Capital of Mato Grosso do Sul had a slight increase: it was 64.6%, whereas, in March, the index was two percentage points lower, 64.2%. Credit card is the reason most cited by interviewees, responsible for 70.2% of debts. The second responsible is far behind, the carnets, only 18.2% of expenses. This is the third consecutive month of increase.
“It is important to note that 58.6% of those interviewed guarantee that they will be able to pay off the debt in full or in part. This is because debt, as long as it is planned, is not at all worrying”, recalls the economist at the Research and Development Institute of Fecomércio MS (IPF/MS), Regiane Dedé de Oliveira.
The economist also explains that default is what causes concern for the financial health of both families and the economy. On average, the delay in accounts continues to be two and a half months, the same period recorded in previous months.
