Around 1,500 kg of donations collected in Manaus are sent to Rio Grande do Sul

Around 1,500 kilos of donations collected in Manaus were sent to flood victims in Canoas, a municipality in Rio Grande do Sul, this Wednesday morning (8). The collections went to the southern region of the country on a Azul flight, with support from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

Among the supplies sent were packages of drinking water.

On the flight, which took off at 11:30 am, there are donations that will be delivered to the municipality of Canoas. Among the donations were packages of drinking water, one of the most needed items at the moment.

Since April 24, the state of Rio Grande do Sul has been facing one of the biggest climate catastrophes in its history, with 341 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by floods. The affected communities are without access to drinking water, electricity, telephone services and have blocked roads.

To help the population affected by the floods, the airline Azul and Azul Viagens, the company’s tourism operator, are promoting, every day, a special operation to receive and transport donations to the state. The company has established grocery collection points in the 160 airports in which it operates and in the 103 Azul Viagens stores throughout Brazil, including Manaus.

In the capital of Amazonas, donations can be made directly at the airline counter, at Eduardo Gomes International Airport, in the West Zone.

According to Porto Alegre City Hall’s Social Assistance, other items also needed for donation are non-perishable food and basic food baskets, personal hygiene items – such as toothpaste and toothbrushes – and bed and bath linen.

The Public Ministry of Amazonas (MP-AM), through its members, employees and collaborators, expressed deep regret and now supports the solidarity campaign “SOS Rio Grande do Sul”, initiated by the government of Rio Grande do Sul, ensuring may help reach those now facing the arduous process of reconstruction.

Items such as water, non-perishable food and powdered milk, which can be left at our collection point at the address: Rua Gabriel Gonçalves, 288, Aleixo neighborhood, from 8am to 5pm, until May 10th.

According to the organization, everything collected will be taken to the blue airline to dispose of the items.

The support group Projeto Verônica is collecting items such as bed, table and bath linen, mineral water, disposable diapers, personal hygiene items, clothes and shoes, non-perishable food and pet food, to be sent to the state.

Fest Comercial is also receiving donations of items such as bed, table and bath linen, mineral water, disposable diapers, personal hygiene items, clothes and shoes, non-perishable food and pet food.

Donations can be made at Rua dos Andraras, 170, Centro de Manaus, until May 14th. The items will be collected and delivered at the airport, at the Azul airline counter.

The Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development (Idesam) is also a collection point for items for donation. The first batch will leave the institute on Tuesday (7), at 2 pm, for Manaus airport, where they will be delivered to the Azul counter.
