Former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is “clinically stable and without fever” after being admitted to the Vila Nova Star hospital, in the south of São Paulo, with severe abdominal pain. According to a medical bulletin issued by the health unit this Wednesday, 8th, Bolsonaro continues to receive intravenous treatment with antibiotics for erysipelas – a skin infection – in the left lower limb, “with gradual improvement in the infectious condition”.

“He is clinically stable and has no fever. There was an improvement in intestinal function and he was already walking in the corridor this Wednesday (8/5). He continues to receive intravenous treatment with antibiotics for erysipelas in the left lower limb, with gradual improvement in the infectious condition. He is under the care of Dr. Antônio Luiz de Vasconcellos Macedo, surgeon, and Dr. Leandro Echenique, cardiologist”, says the bulletin signed by the general director of Vila Nova Star, Daniel Favarão Del Negro, and by the clinical director Paulo Marcelo Gehm Hoff .

The former president was participating in party events in Manaus, Amazonas, when he was hospitalized twice. Bolsonaro arrived in the capital of São Paulo shortly after 7pm on Monday, the 6th, was transferred by ambulance, escorted by two cars, to the hospital in the south zone, and left the vehicle in a wheelchair.

Initially, it was planned that Bolsonaro would be transferred to Brasília, but discomfort in the abdominal region caused his destination to be changed. Surgeon Antônio Luiz Macedo, who has been with him since the stab wound he suffered during the 2018 election campaign, is responsible for the care, along with cardiologist Leandro Echenique.

The medical reports are being distributed by lawyer Fábio Wajngarten, responsible for the logistics of the trip between Manaus and São Paulo, according to federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of the former president. Wajngarten told the Estadão that there is no forecast for an increase.

Problems since the weekend

Bolsonaro was admitted to hospital in Manaus on Saturday the 4th, but left the hospital on the same day to fulfill his PL agenda. “I had a case of erysipelas. I didn’t sleep all last night. My wife and the doctors didn’t want me to come, but I had an appointment here. I’m a bit of a sucker. So, I came and was well treated by the doctors,” he said.

Less than 24 hours later, on Sunday the 5th, he returned to receive medical treatment. Before returning to the hospital, Bolsonaro spoke to supporters, during a PL Mulher state event, with his arm bandaged, and stated that he had been admitted to Hospital Santa Júlia de Manaus, with erysipelas and dehydration.

It’s not the first time you’ve faced the problem. In 2022, Bolsonaro contracted the same infection, erysipelas, after losing the elections, having canceled schedules in November of that year. At the time, the then vice-president, Hamilton Mourão, said that the illness prevented the then-president from wearing pants.
