The chief secretary of the Civil House, Fbio Garcia, commented that state representatives were in Brasilia on Monday (7) to discuss actions with federal environmental agencies to prevent the same episodes that occurred last year from happening during the most critical climate period. .

“We have a big concern this year, especially with the Pantanal region, we have observed a lower volume of rain in that region than in previous years, therefore, there is a big concern about fires in the Pantanal. We were in the presidency of IBAMA, together with the Federal Senate bench, and we discussed the need to previously align these entities, IBAMA, ICMBio, Government of the State of Mato Grosso, and all the constituted Powers so that we can organize the confrontation well. to this drought throughout the Pantanal region”, he said in a press interview this Tuesday (8).

In November last year, a large part of the Pantanal region of Mato Grosso was hit by a huge fire that destroyed more than 20 thousand hectares of the Encontro das Águas State Park, between Pocon and Baro de Melgaão.

The fire caused major environmental impacts, causing the death of animals and the extinction of green areas. According to the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), in less than 15 days there were more than 3,000 fires in the biome, a historical record not recorded since 2002.
