The State University of Rio Grande do Norte (Uern) is encouraging the voluntary action of health professionals to form the volunteer pool of the Rio Grande do Sul State Health Department. Professionals may be invited to assist municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul affected by climatic events and intense rains.

Since the end of April, the state’s population has suffered from the consequences of the floods that hit the state. The situation requires the entire country to join in emergency actions to help the victims of the greatest tragedy that has hit the people of Rio Grande do Sul.Porto Alegre

The collaboration of volunteer professionals will take place in hospitals, emergency care units and other health services to serve the population in Rio Grande do Sul.

To volunteer, professionals must fill out the registration form available at the link https://saude.rs.gov.br/cadastro-de-profissionais. When registering, the professional authorizes their data to be made available by the state secretariat to municipal administrations and health institutions if there is a need to replace or expand the workforce.

Registration is intended for those professionals with available working hours and interested in working to help municipalities. Registration does not guarantee that the professional will be called up, nor does it create an employment relationship.

To date, more than seven thousand health professionals have signed up for the voluntary action.

The State Coordination for Protection and Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul also launched a form for volunteers who wish to work on organizing, selecting and sorting humanitarian aid donations. Institutions, companies and/or groups interested in volunteering can also complete the registration at the link https://casamilitar-rs.com.br/voluntariado/.

According to dean Cicília Maia, much information about the real situation in Rio Grande do Sul is not reaching the rest of the country in its entirety and it is necessary for the University to act in disseminating information about the ways in which the country can help at this time. .

“Through Abruem we have contact with male and female rectors across the country. We contacted the dean of Uergs, Prof. Sandra Lemos and other colleagues from the South, and reports are that the situation is even more serious than what is being shown by the media. Even though we are at the opposite end of the country, we need to help at this time. I’m sure that if it were the other way around, they would be doing the same for us”, said dean Cicília Maia.

To outline strategies to help victims of the floods in RS, the Uern dean spoke with the directors of Uern’s academic units, through the university’s Directors’ Forum.

The coordinator of the Directors’ Forum, professor Meyre Ester Barbosa, praised the institution’s initiative and highlighted everyone’s shared responsibility for the population affected by this tragedy.

“We need to have this spirit of solidarity, on a global basis. We know that it is happening in Rio Grande do Sul, but that it could happen in any other part of the country and the world”, highlighted the Forum coordinator.
