With the aim of further leveraging sport in Porto Velho, the Municipal Department of Sport and Leisure (Semes) participated in an exchange during the 15th edition of the Open Games for Seniors (Jasti), one of the biggest events of this category in the country, held in the city of Criciúma, Santa Catarina.

Jasti brought together more than 2,600 athletes, from 207 municipalities in the 36 micro-regions of the state of Santa Catarina, who competed in athletics, beach tennis, boccia, canasta, dominoes, truco, choreographic dance, ballroom dance, popular dance, adapted volleyball and jackpot 23.

Semes was represented at the event by the senior sports manager, Silvio Ricardo, who took advantage of the exchange to learn about new sports played by seniors. “It was an opportunity to get to know the organization of the event up close regarding the structure, modalities and new features so that we can idealize it in Porto Velho with our elderly people who participate in Viver Ativo”, said the sports manager.

The senior citizen event is also a meeting of experiences and life stories. It is an important time to share laughter, hugs and memories, strengthening bonds and building new friendships, providing opportunities to show that life can be lived with vigor at all stages.

With the experiences acquired at Jasti, the expectation is that they will be put into practice during the Interactive Active Living Games (Jiva) which are held in Porto Velho and should take place in October this year. During Jiva, the elderly from Viver Ativo participate in competitions between the centers Ginásio Dudu, Esperança da Comunidade and Centro de Convivência do Idoso.

According to the secretary of Semes, Ivonete Gomes, Jasti is a reference in Brazil when it comes to games for the elderly, which is why inspiration from major events is important. “Our elderly people in Porto Velho always deserve the best. This exchange shows the care we take with our students, because from then on we will plan the edition of Jiva 2024 in every detail”, she concludes.
