Elected Miss Universe Minas Gerais 2024, Daniela Oliveira, 27 years old, used social media on Tuesday night (7) to explain that she will not participate in Miss Universe Brazil in September. The Portuguese-Brazilian model was crowned in March, but the national organization was sold and the contest invalidated. Diley Almeida, then state coordinator, also spoke out in a note.

In a report, Daniela explained that she is “completely devastated”, put her “mental health at stake” and that they “played” with her dreams. Since departure of Marthina Brandt Last year, there was a mystery about the new owner of the franchise in the country. Only in April after the contract was signed, the Miss Universe warned, in a statement, that Gerson Antonelli, CEO of Miss Teen Brazil, had acquired the rights to the contest in the country. Therefore, for the model to continue with the title, it would be necessary for Diley Almeida to be placed again in the position of state coordinator of the contest in MG.

In a statement, Diley stated that the holding of Miss Universe Minas Gerais 2024 “was fully known and authorized by the hitherto national organization.” He also says that he “would never allow anything to be done without full transparency and permission.”

With the announcement of the new owner of Miss Universe Brazil, Diley says he tried to negotiate the state franchise, however, the licensing fee was “extremely abusive”. He ends by thanking everyone involved in the last competition.

After the repercussion of the case, Daniela Oliveira opened her heart and told her version of the contest held in Barbacena, in Zona da Mata. “For clarification purposes, I hereby announce that I will not participate in Miss Universe Brazil”, she begins.

“I am completely devastated. There were many contractual issues that made me remain silent throughout this period, they played with my dream and my self-esteem. I embraced this opportunity with a lot of determination and dedication, there were long periods of investment and lost work, but nothing promised was fulfilled”, he continues.

The model adds: “The coordination, in which I was represented, throughout this period did not honor their word and their duty to notify me of any obstacles that would cause me some type of inconvenience or even the impossibility of participating in the competition, even with a contract that would guarantee me the right to participate.”

“A dream that ended up becoming a nightmare, where I put my mental health at stake, frustrating myself and keeping silent about situations that I still can’t talk about. I was surprised by the news only when the note from the State Coordination came out, at which point the National organization, through its president, promptly contacted me offering all support for me to continue in the competition”, he adds.

She ends: “I’m here out of respect for all of you who cheered and embraced this dream with me. I apologize for everything that happened. To the fans, partners, friends and family who supported me, I offer my sincere thanks. With love, Dani.”

Daniela Oliveira would be the first married woman to represent Minas Gerais in the history of the contest. It is not yet known who will be the new state coordinator of Miss Universe MG, whether the candidate will be nominated or whether a new contest will be held.

Miss Universe Brazil 2024 will be held between the 22nd and 27th of September, in São Paulo. On the other hand, Miss Universe takes place at the end of the year, in Mexico.
