Vaccination against flu will be extended to all Brasilia residents over 6 months of age, starting this Thursday (2/4). The Health Department of the Federal District (SES-DF) follows the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
On Tuesday (30/4), Health Minister Nísia Trindade published on her X, formerly Twitter, that the influenza vaccination campaign would be expanded to all Brazilians over 6 months of age. “We are anticipating this measure to respond to the increase in influenza cases”, stated the minister.
The expansion of the age group will be valid until the supply of vaccines available in the network runs out.
The flu vaccine was previously recommended for a series of more restricted groups, particularly children between 6 months and 6 years of age, healthcare workers and teachers, pregnant women and elderly people over 60 years of age.
The guideline is to go to one of the service locations with identification and a vaccination booklet. The complete list of addresses and times is available on the folder’s website.
Flu vaccine below target
The measure also serves as an incentive to increase the volume of people vaccinated, considering that in recent years influenza vaccination coverage has been below target. In 2023, almost 16 million Brazilians who could have been vaccinated did not show up at the clinics.
This year, as of April 21, only 22% of the target audience had been vaccinated. The vaccine in 2024 is intended to protect against Influenza A (H1N1), Influenza A (H3N2) and Influenza B, the strains of the virus that are most circulating in the country.
