Content is shared by right-wing profiles and Bolsonaro supporters; Minister of Defense says that the availability of the military is “absolute

Videos shared on X (former Twitter) by supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and right-wing profiles show criticism of the Brazilian Army’s role in helping people in Rio Grande do Sul.

O pre-candidate for councilor of Curitiba for PL (Liberal Party) Olimpio Araujo Junior published a video on this 3th fair (May 7, 2024) in which he states that an Army truck refused to rescue a family in Rio Grande do Sul.

In the video, a woman who says she is 90 years old states that the Army passed by her 4 times without rescuing her. In the same material shared by Olimpio, a man says he screamed, but the truck didn’t stop.

“They touched the truck and didn’t pay any attention to me” says the man in the video.

Another video published on Sunday (May 5) by the “Vista Pátria” profile shows an Army team that supposedly went to rescue victims in RS, but was reportedly rescued by civilians. A man says in the video that the soldiers got lost.

“The producers had to help the Army personnel. It’s shameful”it says in the video.

In the same recording, a woman says: “What we need is for you to share that the Army is not helping with almost anything”.

Another profile of a supporter of the former president released a video with a report from a man in Canoas, Rio Grande do Sul.

“Everything is at a standstill because the Army is screening boats to enter”reports.

A profile called “Brazil enDireita” released a video showing jet skis in trucks, which, according to the man in the record, are being stored and would not be used to help victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul.

THE OTHER SIDE

The Minister of Defense, José Múcio, asked for a “truce” to critics on Monday (May 6) and said that people are taking political advantage of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul caused by heavy rains.

According to the minister, the actions of the Armed Forces resulted in more than 46,000 rescues through the use of 16 planes. Múcio also said that the availability of the military in the scenario is “absolute”. He made the statements in an interview with GloboNews.

“We are ready for now and ready for after the rains. We will participate in the reconstruction of Rio Grande do Sul and the Armed Forces will be present at that moment”said Mucio.

O Power360 contacted the Brazilian Army and the Ministry of Defense by email at around 5:40 pm this Tuesday (May 7) to obtain the official position on the criticisms of the Force’s actions in RS, and, specifically, on the allegations contained in the publications shared on social networks.

However, there was no response until the publication of this post. The space remains open for demonstrations.
