Rio – The official Rio Carnival parades will now have one more day. In addition to the traditional performances on Sunday and Monday, the public will be able to follow the Grupo Especial samba schools at the Sambódromo, also on the Tuesday of revelry. The decision for the new division of dates was endorsed by the presidents and representatives of the associations during a plenary meeting held this Monday (6), at the headquarters of the Independent League of Samba Schools in Rio de Janeiro (Liesa).
Within the approved configuration, which will already be valid for 2025, four schools will perform each day. Therefore, also in an unprecedented decision, the judges’ scores will be closed at the end of each day. Unidos de Padre Miguel, current champion of the Gold Series, will open on Sunday, March 2nd, with Unidos da Tijuca, 11th placed in the Special Group the previous year, starting on Monday, March 3rd, and Mocidade, 10th of 2024, opening on Tuesday.
The rest will be divided into threes, with the order being defined in the draw on the 23rd, in Cidade do Samba: Mangueira, Portela and Beija-Flor / Grande Rio, Viradouro and Salgueiro / Paraíso do Tuiuti, Vila Isabel and Imperatriz Leopoldinense.
“As part of this initiative, we want to enable a reduction in the price of the stands, with the aim of making tickets even more accessible. We will also ensure that more people are at the Sambadrome on different days”, highlighted the president of Liesa, Gabriel David.
Furthermore, the show will gain even more attractions, with new features that guarantee the presence of the public at Sapucaí after the end of each day, until dawn.
With the change in the Special Group, the children’s parades will move to a new day of the week, which will still be chosen in agreement with Aesm-Rio, the organization responsible for the children’s presentations, and with the public authorities.
The Parade of Champions will be held on Saturday, March 8th, with the top six placed.
