Rural worker finds snake inside house on farm

Content creator and rural worker Edvaldo Rodrigues, on Monday (22), recorded a peculiar scene in a house on the property where he works, a farm about 200 km from Pindorama do Tocantins, in the central region of the state. A snake was on the roof of one of the rooms.

According to Edvaldo, he managed to recognize that the snake is a canine species and despite attracting attention, it is harmless.

In an interview with g1 Edvaldo said that on the day the snake was seen, he and some relatives were dealing with cattle. “This is a little house where we keep some materials and tools for the cattle. That day, two of my cousins from Minas Gerais went to visit and I asked them to go there, when I was showing them the little house I saw the dog”, explained the worker.

With his experience on the farm, Edvaldo said he already recognized the species. “As I know that it is a harmless snake, it even eats other snakes, I had the idea of filming it for Instagram.”

In addition to saying that she eats other snakes, the farmer also comments in the video that she will help him by eating the bats that are on the roof.

The biologist, master in herpetology and zoology and environmental consultant, Silionamã Dantas explained that bats are not part of the diet of this species. “I’m not saying that there aren’t other cases, but I’m not particularly aware of them and I don’t know of any reports in the literature either,” he said.

The expert said that other snakes could actually be part of the canine’s menu. “Spilotes pullatus (caninana) can feed on a series of prey, birds, small mammals especially. It can eventually prey on snakes, lizards and amphibians.”

According to the biologist, Edvaldo was right about the snake not being a threat.

“It is harmless to humans, as it has ‘aglyphic’ teeth, which is a type of non-caniculated teeth, that is, it does not have a hole through which the poison would pass, as occurs in pit vipers with “solenoglyphic” teeth. Furthermore, it has very small teeth. On the other hand, some individuals tend to be very aggressive, which can be understood as a form of defense by the animal,” explained the biologist.

The species, according to Silionamã, can reach 2.5 meters and occurs in almost the entire national territory. The biologist explains that even though the animal is not a danger, touching it can cause minor problems. “As one of the animals that the species preys on are rats, there is always a danger of bacterial infection.”

The biologist also explained that the ideal in the case of snakes is to never handle them, whatever the species, whenever possible, call the Fire Department, Environmental Military Police or a biologist who has knowledge about these animals.
