In March this year, Bahia received 14,231 foreign tourists. The number corresponds to almost 50% of the 29,839 visitors who entered Brazil through airports in the Northeast. Bahia registered more than double the number of international tourists who arrived in Pernambuco (7,701) and almost triple that of Ceará (5,253), which occupy second and third positions in the region’s ranking, respectively. The data comes from the Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Police.
When compared to March 2023, the flow of foreigners at Bahia airports grew 74%, confirming expectations from the Bahia Tourism Secretariat (Setur-BA), which has invested in promoting the state’s 13 tourist zones and prospecting flights, in the main international sector fairs. At the events, training is provided on destinations for operators and travel agents, in addition to showing the attractions of Bahia to the public interested in visiting Brazil.

“We are happy to see that our expectations in the international market are being confirmed. But the work cannot stop. We remain firm in promoting the Bahia destination and attracting flights from abroad. This increase in the airline sector had an impact on the hotel industry. If we only take Salvador, the average hotel occupancy, from January to March 2024, reached the 70% range, the highest in the last three years. The numbers show that the work of the State Government, with the contribution of other tourism agents, is on the right track”, celebrates the head of Setur-BA, Maurício Bacelar.
