People interested in changing their name and gender in the civil registry in Mato Grosso do Sul, but who do not have the financial means to cover the necessary expenses at the registry office, can do this service free of charge, through the “TRANSformando Histórias” campaign.
Interested parties should send a message or call (67) 9 9265-7323, request the form and send the necessary data. On Saturday (4), the Public Defender’s Office will assist everyone who requests the service, at the Barão de Melgaço Unit, nº128, from 8 am to 12 pm.
The initiative is from the Public Defender’s Office of Mato Grosso do Sul, in partnership with the Ministry of Human Rights, the Association of Notaries and Registrars of MS (Anoreg/MS), the State Public Ministry and the Public Defender’s Office of the Union.
According to the coordinator of the Institutional Center for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights (Nudedh), free access for transvestites and transsexuals who do not have the financial means to pay for a name change at the registry office is guaranteed by state law No. 6,183, since April 2024 .
