The Minister of Labor and Employment, Luiz Marinho, said this Tuesday (7) that the federal government will release R$2.9 billion for residents affected by the storms in Rio Grande do Sul.

The value was recorded based on the following measurements:

  • release of the Service Time Guarantee Fund (FGTS)
  • expansion of Unemployment Insurance installments
  • anticipation of the Salary Bonus

In the case of Unemployment Insurance, the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE) reported that will increase two installments for people affected by the rains.

In the case of FGTS, emergency withdrawal will be released for these residents. Regarding the collection of this contribution by employers, the Ministry announced that will be suspended for four months.

Marinho also said that the MTE will publish ordinances and decrees authorizing the flexibility of resources, especially for 336 municipalities hit by storms in recent weeks.

The minister stated that the expense will not be considered in the government’s calculation for compliance with the 2024 tax rules.

Marinho said that he is waiting for Congress to approve the Provisional Measure (MP) that authorizes aid to the state outside the fiscal target.

“Of this volume of resources amounts to R$2.9 billion, part of which will return when the FGTS is collected later on”, argued Marinho during a seminar in Brasília.

Until the publication of this report, the MP had not yet been approved.
