The Government of Pernambuco, through Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento (Compesa), resumed work on the well drilling program that will expand the water supply in the Metropolitan Region of Recife, benefiting 240 thousand people in the cities of Recife, Olinda and Paulista. The Company is now carrying out civil and mechanical interventions to operate 14 pieces of equipment already drilled in the three municipalities. The interventions also involve the implementation of pipelines and maintenance of the reservoir areas that will receive the volume of water captured in the wells, the infrastructure necessary for operation. The actions are part of the R$52 million investment package announced in March by the manager to increase water supply in the RMR.

“Expanding water supply throughout the State was one of the commitments we made since the beginning of the administration. And in addition to benefiting the interior of the State with structural works, we also direct investments to the Metropolitan Region of Recife. By resuming work on these wells, for example, we are reducing the need for rotation, ensuring that water reaches the population’s tap and benefiting thousands of people who live in Recife, Olinda and Paulista”, said Governor Raquel Lyra. The equipment will start operating by December this year and the expected increase is 402 liters of water per second for the three cities.

In Recife, six wells will serve critical supply areas in the city’s North Zone. There will be two wells for Dois Irmãos/Córrego da Fortuna, with the expectation of eliminating the supply rotation for the population of the areas, and a new equipment in the Dois Unidos neighborhood to improve the water supply in the locality and guarantee compliance with the water supply schedule. distribution.

Another three wells will also ensure more water for Alto José Bonifácio, which is currently receiving interventions to build a pipeline that will transport water to the neighborhood’s reservoir and a water lifting station (pumping system). With the completion of the services, the expectation is to reduce rationing and also comply with the calendar in the area. The expected increase with the completion of Recife’s six wells is 97 liters of water per second for the capital’s supply system.

“In the coming months we will complete the civil works on the wells in the North Zone of Recife and begin operating this equipment, guaranteeing an important reinforcement of almost 100 liters of water per second for the city’s supply system. 50 thousand people will benefit from more water, especially in the hilly areas of the capital, where the demand for more water is great”, stated the president of Compesa, Alex Campos.

In Olinda, three wells will also come into operation later this year. There will be two pieces of equipment to serve the neighborhoods of Jardim Brasil I and II, part of the neighborhood of Peixinhos and Vila Popular, with the prospect of reducing the supply calendar by four days, which is currently one day with water and seven days without. A third well will serve part of the Ouro Preto neighborhood and the expectation is to reduce the supply regime by two days, which is currently 1 x 5.

In the municipality of Paulista, five wells will come into operation, two in the neighborhood of Pau Amarelo, one in Nossa Senhora do Ó, one in Maranguape I/Jardim Maranguape and one more in Maranguape II.
