The Opposition Bench in the Legislative Assembly of Paraná (Alep) highlighted the seriousness of the State’s fiscal situation, citing the recent Firjan report. According to the Federation of Industries of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Paraná faces one of the biggest fiscal challenges in Brazil, with a predicted deficit of R$3.5 billion for 2024, only surpassed by Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Ceará .
For deputy Requião Filho, Leader of the Opposition, Paraná’s fiscal reality differs significantly from government promises.
“Government propaganda presents a series of illusory achievements. However, the facts show that we are among the states with the worst fiscal performance in Brazil. This has a direct impact on the population’s pockets, with an increase in the costs of basic services and the resumption of unpopular measures such as tolls. We need transparency and effective management to overcome this phase”, emphasizes the deputy.
Firjan’s study, based on data sent by states to the National Treasury Secretariat, criticizes the tax increase strategy adopted by several states, including Paraná.
In the last two years, Paraná increased the ICMS modal rate from 18% to 19.5% — a measure that, according to the report, failed to solve the deficit problem.
