Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes, a woman who took her deceased uncle in a wheelchair to withdraw a R$17,000 loan from a bank branch in Rio de Janeiro, left the Instituto Penal Djanira Dolores de Oliveira, in Bangu, in the area West of Rio, on the afternoon of this Thursday (2), after spending 16 days in prison. Also this Thursday, she was denounced by the Public Prosecutor’s Office for the crimes of attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse (remember the case at the end of the article).

‘Uncle Paulo’s niece was welcomed by several family members and cried as she hugged them. Her release from prison was followed by the public and the press. In the decision that determined Érika’s release, judge Luciana Mocco highlighted that the investigated is a primary defendant, has a fixed residence and has poor mental health, having even been hospitalized due to chemical dependency on sedatives and hypnotics, in addition of having a minor daughter with a disability.

Hours earlier, the Public Prosecutor’s Office filed a complaint against Érika for the crimes of attempted embezzlement and vilification of a corpse. The complaint highlights that, although the loan was taken out by Paulo, when he was still alive, the withdrawal of R$ 17,975.38 could no longer be carried out, since, at the time of the accused’s arrest in the act, the victim had already had passed away. The criminal action also highlights that the accused, through fraud, tried to appropriate amounts that would no longer be used in favor of her uncle, which would cause damage to the financial institution that granted the loan, as it would no longer be repaid. by the debtor, now deceased.

A woman was arrested on April 16 in Bangu, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, after take a corpse in a wheelchair to try to withdraw a loan worth R$17,000 at a bank branch.

Érika de Souza Vieira Nunes’ action was caught by bank employees, who were suspicious of the woman’s attitude. The police and the Mobile Emergency Service were also called, and it was found that Paulo Roberto Braga, aged 68, was dead.

According to Fábio Luiz, the delegate responsible for the case, the man had already been dead for a few hours. Érika’s defense, however, denies this and claims that the elderly man began to feel ill inside the bank.
