Flu vaccination is extended to people over six months of age. According to the State Department of Health of Goiás (SES-GO), the recommendation made by the Ministry of Health (MS) on Wednesday (1st) regarding the expansion of the supply of the Influenza vaccine to the unvaccinated population .

Goiás has already received 952 thousand doses of the Influenza vaccine, which have already been distributed to municipalities in Goiás. Currently, coverage for the Influenza vaccine among the State’s priority groups is 22.28% and 26.78% in Brazil, but what is recommended by the MS is coverage above 90%.

The ministry informed that the expansion will depend on the epidemiological situation in the territories and the existing stock of the vaccine, in addition to the strategy defined by the State and Municipal Health Departments. Furthermore, it highlighted that it will follow the technical note and guide the municipalities to follow the expansion.

In a note, SES-GO said that despite the high vulnerability of initial groups, such as pregnant women, postpartum women, adults over 60 years of age, children under six years of age and individuals with comorbidities or special clinical conditions, vaccination can provide less hospitalizations and outpatient care.

“Vaccination can provide benefits to the population not included in the already established priority groups, in addition to contributing to the reduction of outpatient care and hospitalizations during the autumn and winter period”, highlighted the ministry.
