Mato Grosso records the highest number of fire outbreaks in the country for the second consecutive month :: MT News

Mato Grosso recorded 797 fires in April, reaching the second consecutive month with the highest number of fires in Brazil, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe). In March, 1,624 outbreaks were registered, above the historical maximum of 1,270, referring to the same period in 2020.

Despite the high number in April, it is below the historical maximum of 1,351 outbreaks, registered in the same period, in 2016. In total, Mato Grosso recorded 4,201 outbreaks in 2024, counted up to May 1st. The state is behind Roraima, which has 4,610 fires registered this year.

Also according to Inpe data, the municipalities in Mato Grosso that recorded the most fires this year were: Nova Maring, with 261 fires; Brasnorte, with 256, and Corumb, with 253.

In April, the 10 municipalities with the highest registration were: Brasnorte (55 outbreaks); Cceres (54 outbreaks); So Flix do Araguaia (46 outbreaks); Querncia (44 foci); Northern Gacha (41 outbreaks); Paranatinga (31 outbreaks); Nova Maring (28 outbreaks); Merry Christmas (26 focuses); Diamantino (22 outbreaks) and So José do Xingu (21 outbreaks).
