Twenty years later, a Brazilian company will once again manufacture insulin in the country, a hormone that helps reduce blood glucose levels. And production will be in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. In the city of Nova Lima, President Lula participated, this Friday (26), in the inauguration of the Biomm factory, which will serve almost 2 million Brazilians. Lula defended the growth of the health industry in the country and the benefits it brings to the population.ebc.gif?id=1592578&o=node

Biomm’s production must meet the demand of people with diabetes who depend on hormones for treatment. Our country has more than 15 million adult patients with this condition, according to the International Diabetes Federation Atlas. This makes Brazil one of the countries with the highest incidence of the disease.

To resume national production, the factory will require an investment of R$800 million. With this, the government hopes that production will be sufficient to serve the SUS, in addition to generating employment, income and investment in the country. The new unit should generate 300 direct jobs and more than a thousand indirect jobs.

The new production plant has the capacity to manufacture 20 million refills of Glargine insulin per year and pens for administering the hormone. According to the government, it can also make 20 million vials of other medicines.

Also during the inauguration, the company Biomm signed a protocol of intentions with Fiocruz, to develop a drug production program for the treatment of metabolic diseases for the SUS.
