Understand the imbroglio involving America, the Government of Minas and Luarenas

América claims from the Government of Minas Gerais the payment of almost R$14 million for not having received transfers from BWA/Luarenas, the company that managed Arena Independência from 2012 to 2022.

The charge falls on the Executive Branch because it was with them that the club signed an agreement to transfer the stadium, back in 2009, so that the space in the Horto neighborhood, in Belo Horizonte, could undergo renovations. The aim was to receive training from teams in the Confederations Cups, in 2013, and the World Cups, in 2014.

In 2012, after the works, the Government of Minas handed over management of the stadium to BWA/Luarenas. In return, América and the state would receive monthly, for ten years, part of what the company earned from the commercial exploitation of Horto. The money, however, was not allocated to either party, which caused the Executive to break the contract with the company.

This Wednesday (24/04), when sending the 2023 balance sheet to the advisors, América pointed out that the debt reaches R$ 13,966,854.00 and that, ultimately, the responsibility to pay it lies with the state .

The O Tempo Sports report contacted the Government of Minas, but at the time of publication of this report there was no response.
