More than 50 thousand passengers used Zona da Mata Airport, in Minas, during the 1st quarter of 2024

The number of passengers who used Zona da Mata Airport, in Minas Gerais, during the first quarter of 2024 increased compared to the same period last year, reports the concessionaire Socicam.

Between the months of January and March, the enterprise served more than 50 thousand passengers, including arrivals and departures. The value represents growth of 14% compared to 2023, when the registration was 44,339 passengers.

The positive mark was also accompanied by a 12% increase in the number of landings and takeoffs. In the first three months of the year, 443 regular flights were carried out, while in the same period last year 395 operations were recorded. The two brands represent a record for a first quarter of the year since the venture opened commercial operations in August 2012.

“After ending 2023 with 220 thousand passengers served in a single year, a historic mark since the Airport began operations, it is a great satisfaction to close the first quarter of 2024 with such positive indicators. The results reaffirm the capacity and competitiveness of our enterprise as an important driver of air transport and the economy in the Zona da Mata of Minas Gerais”says Flávio Santos, superintendent of Zona da Mata Airport.

Air Cargo Transport

In addition to the growth in the number of passengers and flights, Zona da Mata Airport also points to optimistic results in the movement of national and international air cargo.

With the availability of a Bonded Cargo Terminal, the project reached the unprecedented mark of 90 tons transported in the first quarter of 2024, considering national and international volumes. The number represents growth of 122% compared to values ​​recorded in the same period in 2023, when 40 tons were received at the site.

According to Alexander Cerqueira, director of Airports at Socicam, interventions planned for 2024 should increase the safety of operations and enable Zona da Mata Airport for even more promising results.

“Throughout the year, we will direct important investments to the runway and apron infrastructure, such as revitalizing horizontal signage, as well as improvements to the flight information system. We are highly committed to promoting safe and efficient operations, enhancing the role that the enterprise plays in the economic development of the Minas Gerais region”scores.

Currently, the Airport serves regular flights from Azul to Viracopos (SP) and Confins (MG), from GOL to Congonhas Airport (SP) and from LATAM, in partnership with VoePass, to Guarulhos (SP).

Zona da Mata Airport is the main air transport option serving Juiz de Fora and the entire region. The project has modern infrastructure, free Wi-Fi, a large lobby for passengers and users, capacity for 600,000 passengers/year, in addition to the second longest runway in Minas Gerais, measuring 2,525 meters.
