A Industrial Development Company of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Codin) identified an advance in the willingness of the industrial sector to operate in the territory of Rio de Janeiro. According to the company, industrialists’ interest in opening a business or expanding one already in operation more than doubled in the first two months of 2024, compared to the same period last year. The trend is the result of the 125% increase in the allocation of tax incentives to the segment by the State government of Rio de Janeiro. In total, more than R$46 million were granted – 13% more than in the same period in 2023.
The governor Cláudio Castro (PL) highlighted that the measure, among others implemented by the State governmentgenerated a legally safe business environment, which increased the confidence of industrialists to invest in Rio de Janeiro.
“We have once again attracted investment to Rio de Janeiro, thanks to the legally safe business environment we have established in the state, and we have seen significant growth in industrial production in the last 12 months. We ended 2023 with rates well above the national average and did not let the pace drop, starting 2024 with the sector booming. In the first two months of this year, we had more than one industry per week moving to enter or expand in Rio de Janeiro territory”, noted the head of Executive state.
With regard to job creation by the industrial sector, in the period mentioned, Codin identified an increase of 30%. The company’s projection is that with the approval of new tax incentives by Permanent Policy Committee for the Economic Development of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CPPDE) the number of open vacancies is even greater.
“The interest of the industrial sector in Rio de Janeiro should continue to grow, stimulated by the debureaucratization of the public machine and by a strong and responsible policy of incentives and legal security”, said the secretary of Economic Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Vinícius Farah.
Fábio Picançopresident of Codin, highlighted that the company’s actions, in partnership with the State Government and the Rio de Janeiro legislature, were decisive in expanding industrial prospects in the State.
“We have a highly qualified technical team and we are investing even more in training and analysis processes. We also cannot forget the state finance secretariats, the Civil House and the Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro, which, together with Codin, have demonstrated exemplary performance for the socioeconomic development of the state”, pointed out the president of Codin, whose survey found that companies in the wholesale sector were the most benefited from the granting of tax incentives.
