Tour bus accident in Chile leaves two Brazilian women dead and 33 injured

An accident with a tourist bus in the north of Chile left two women dead and 33 people injured in the early hours of Thursday, the 25th. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the vehicle had left Porto Alegrein Rio Grande do Sul, and carried 42 Brazilians, three remain in serious condition.

According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, The accident reportedly occurred after the driver, also Brazilian, lost control and overturned the vehicle on the route that connects Passo Jama, on the border with Argentina, to the tourist city of San Pedro de Atacama, in the Antofagasta region.

One of the victims was identified as teacher Elenice Terezinha Mezzomo Preto, from the municipality of David Canabarro (RS), in a statement the city hall paid condolences to family and friends.

Itamaraty said it continues to monitor the situation to provide support to Brazilians, through the consulate general in Santiago. “The Brazilian government conveys its sincere condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and wishes the injured a full recovery,” he wrote in a note.
