As usual, the government’s largest source of revenue in 2024 is the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Provision of Services), which was responsible for 74.74% of the total. Next comes the IPVA (motor vehicle ownership tax) with 18.88%. The remainder comes from other fees, taxes and ITCD (Tax on Transmission Causa Mortis and Donation).

Despite the positive balance in the first three months, Mato Grosso do Sul showed a 5.75% drop in revenue for the month of March. In 2023, it was R$1,618,489,671 compared to R$1,525,467,071 in 2024, resulting in a negative balance of R$93,022,600 (ninety-three million, twenty-two thousand and six hundred reais).

Mato Grosso do Sul’s positive performance in the first three of 2024 exceeded the national average, which accumulated a drop of 13.66 in collections. In January, February and March 2023, all states combined collected R$213 billion in taxes. In 2024, total revenue was R$184 billion, resulting in a decrease of R$29 billion.
