Santa Catarina surpassed the 6 million vehicle mark this year. According to Detran statistics, the State fleet has 6,029,567 units, in data updated this Friday. With progress, Santa Catarina doubled the number of vehicles within 15 years. Last year alone, another 195 thousand vehicles were added. During this period, the population of Santa Catarina grew by close to 30%, according to estimates from the end of the 2000s and the 2022 Census.

The State has 13 cities with a fleet of over 100 thousand vehicles, led by Joinville, where 470 thousand units are registered, according to Detrans (check out the top ten below). Over the 15-year period, progress in Joinville was significant, 90%, but was below the state average of 105%. Almost 70% of vehicles registered in Santa Catarina are cars, including SUVs and trucks. Motorcycles represent a 21% share

The IPVA of the Santa Catarina fleet brought in revenue of R$3.8 billion last year, in revenue divided between the State and municipalities. The use of state tax revenue, as with other taxes, has no mandatory destination: the resources can be used for any State and municipal expenses – there is no link to their use in mobility, for example.
