CBF postpones games for clubs from Rio Grande do Sul; Athletico x Ypiranga is affected

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) decided to postpone only the matches of clubs in the Rio Grande do Sul due to the tragedy in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Games, as home and away, are suspended until May 27th.

In Series A, teams will not play for three rounds. The affected competitions are: Series A, C and D, Copa do Brasil, Women’s A1, A2 and A3, in addition to the Brazilian men’s and women’s under-20s.

The duel of Athletico against Ypiranga, which was scheduled for May 22nd, at 8pm, at Ligga Arena, in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, is on the list. On the way, the team from Rio Grande do Sul beat Furacão 2-1in Erechim.

The clubs from Rio Grande do Sul wanted the Brasileirão total to be stopped. However, some clubs were against the decision due to a lack of dates in the Brazilian football calendar.

President Mario Celso Petraglia, of Athletico, made the club’s facilities available to the Grenal duo, but rejected the possibility of a suspension of the championship: “No way to stop,” he told UmDois Esportes.

Due to the state of public calamity in Rio Grande do Sul, decreed by the Federal and State Governments, resulting from the extreme weather events that occurred, CBF expresses its total solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul and reinforces that the current focus is on meeting their immediate and emergency needs.

The CBF, as the organizing entity of national competitions, and attentive to its institutional functions, as well as the humanitarian effort that the moment calls for, reaffirms its unrestricted support to the authorities so that all measures and actions are adopted for the benefit of the population of Rio Grande do Sul, whose help is the top priority.

Given the current scenario, having received letter no. 57/2024, originating from the Gaucho Football Federation (FGF), which forwarded and endorsed the request of its affiliated clubs, CBF informs that all matches involving teams from Rio Grande de Sul in national competitions, as home or away, scheduled until May 27, 2024, are postponed.
