For the first time in history, the state of Tocantins hosts a stage of the Brazilian Chess Open, which starts this Friday (26) and runs until Sunday (28), at the Rio do Sono hotel, in Palmas. The event is part of the celebrations of the centenary year of the Brazilian Chess Confederation (CBX), which will promote and encourage several tournaments in all regions of the country.
Participants from 13 Brazilian states and the Federal District confirmed their presence at the event that brings together the best and renowned chess players in the region. Among them GM Darcy Lima, from Rio de Janeiro, and MF Lucas Aguiar, from the Federal District, as well as representatives from Alagoas, Bahia, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do South, Rondônia, São Paulo and Tocantins.
The Brazilian Open will be played in the classic style and will distribute prizes worth R$6,200.00. According to the president of the Brazilian Chess Confederation, Máximo Igor Macedo, the Brazilian Open stage in Tocantins will count points for the national and international rankings.
“The Brazilian Open in Tocantins arrives to add to and stimulate the development of chess in this part of the country, bringing together the North, Central-West and Northeast regions, and CBX, understanding the importance of the work carried out, places this state on the Brazilian competition calendar , valid for the national and international ranking, as well as points for the National Circuit and places for the Brazilian final”, explains Igor Macedo, who is in Palmas following the competition.
