Surfer Pedro Scooby leads a group that works to rescue people affected by floods in Porto Alegre and the Metropolitan Region. This Tuesday (7), the athlete flew over the area of ​​Eldorado do Sul, one of the cities most damaged by the rains, and defined the scenario as a “Horror Movie”.

“The entire population is helping. We have to keep mobilizing. I’ve never seen anything like it. It looks like a horror movie,” he said.

The Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul updated the number of deaths to 90 more due to the storms that hit the state. The bulletin released this Tuesday (7) also points out that there are another 4 deaths being investigated. The state records 131 missing and 362 injured.

There are 204.3 thousand people away from home. Of this total, 48.2 thousand are in shelters and 156 thousand are homeless (people staying with family or friends). RS has 397 of its 497 municipalities with any report of a problem related to the storm, with 1.4 million people affected.

Scooby and other athletes, including Lucas Chumbo, IIan Cossenza, Felipe Cesarano and others, began the rescue work on Monday (6). The team of surfers brought watercraft, life jackets and supplies to the state to add to the donations.

The work began in the municipality of Eldorado do Sul, which, according to Mayor Ernani de Freitas (PDT), is 100% flooded and will need to be evacuated. Videos and photos on social media show the group in action helping with rescues.
