A Portuguese-Brazilian model Daniela Oliveira27 years old, may no longer be the Miss Universe Minas Gerais 2024. After Diley Almeida announced this Tuesday (7) that he will not continue to lead the contest, the miss will depend exclusively on the new owner of the state franchise. Until then, the name of the new coordinator was not disclosed by Miss Universe Brazil, which had the rights acquired by a new businessman in April.

In a note, Diley Almeida clarified that the contest that elected Miss Universe Minas Gerais in Barbacena, in Zona da Mata, “was fully known and authorized by the hitherto national organization.”

“The nature, professionalism and decency of the entire team involved in the event would never allow anything to be done without full transparency and permission”, he continues.

Diley remembers that the 2024 edition was closed in 2023, as announced at the end of the competition. According to him, two other cities in Minas Gerais also expressed interest in hosting the event in 2025.

“We could never predict the events that we would experience next, and even though we were full of fears and insecurities, the word given and all the agreements reached had to be fulfilled, and the then national organization was aware of this and supported us in the best way they could at that time” , he pointed out.

Diley explains that it has always been “of total interest” to continue ahead of Miss Universe Minas Gerais, “not only to honor our work, but also our Miss Universe Minas Gerais 2024, until then legitimately elected on March 16th in the city of Barbacena .”

Negotiation attempt

Diley explains that he tried to negotiate with the new organization, but he was faced with “an extremely abusive licensing fee”. The coordinator also says that he also does not agree with “some positions adopted by it”.

For this reason, “there is no longer any interest in continuing to front the state license of Minas Gerais for Miss Universe Brazil”.

The statement ends: “The dream of bringing Miss Universe Minas Gerais to its glory days still lives within us, and we hope that we can soon continue this path. It is not an easy decision to make, so we count on everyone’s respect. To all the candidates, sponsors, coordinators, staff, family and friends who have been by our side over these two years, we would like to thank you very much.”

Understand the controversy

Ten state coordinators of the Miss Universe Brazil They decided to abdicate their positions after a new management took over the competition in the country. In a statement sent to Itatiaiathey justified it by saying that the “practices” of the current leadership “do not reflect the ideals” for which they work.

Miss Brazil 2017, Monalysa Alcântara, was the contest coordinator in Piauí. In addition to her, the following also abdicated their positions: Miro Sampaio (Amazonas), Guilhermino Benevides (Ceará), Eder Ignácio (São Paulo), George Azevedo (Rio Grande do Norte and Paraíba), Paulo Silas (Roraima), Luiz Plínio (Sergipe) , Eleticia Dias (Rondônia) and Ana Meyre (Acre). The reason is that they do not approve the choice of new franchise management in the country.

The statement says that those responsible for the “state competitions” are “surprised” and “concerned” about the new organization and, therefore, in a joint decision, they chose to “resign from their positions as state franchisees of the national competition”.

The text concludes: “The departure is in total disagreement and repudiation of the new franchisee’s history and professional positioning. Throughout his career in the miss world, the current owner has demonstrated a series of attitudes that contradict the values and principles defended by the coordinators”.

Some time later, Gerson Antonelli spoke out. “I’m sorry to see them leave,” the text begins. “It is not up to me to judge them or question their decision, however, it is necessary to clarify that these coordinators were publicizing the opening and making registrations for the state competitions without any permission from the Miss Universe Organization”, he highlights.

Gerson states that his administration began on April 17th of this year and, therefore, there should be “no explanation about the actions of these coordinators before this date”.

“In the last few days I have already received emails from people interested in the States in question and I am evaluating each one of them very carefully, so that we can maintain the level and grandeur that the Miss Universe Organization competition deserves”, he explains.

Gerson also states that Miss Universe is “aware of everything that happened” and “is aware of all the posts and videos that were released”. The statement ends: “I wish them all good luck and we will certainly have qualified people to replace them.”
