A This April, Monte Rodovias completes three years as head of the administration of Bahia Norte (CBN), in Bahia, and the Rotas do Atlântico and Coqueiro, in Pernambuco, with positive results in its operations. During this period, R$186 million were invested in the three concessions, which together total 183 km, consolidating the holding, established in July 2020, as the largest state reference in the Northeast of Brazil.

Seventy percent of the company’s investments, during this period, were made in the 132 km that make up the BA-093 System, under the concession of North Bahia. “In three years, we duplicated the last three remaining kilometers of BA-093, corresponding to an investment of approximately R$34 million. We invested more than R$25 million in recovering the pavement of our highways, in addition to other investments in stabilizing embankments, systems and revitalizing our squares and operational bases, ensuring road safety and considerably improving the experience of our users”, says Guilherme Freire, president of Bahia Norte.

Since 2021, more than 3,200 medical services have been provided, in addition to more than 3,000 mechanical services, ensuring qualified assistance for those traveling on the highways of Bahia Norte.

Located in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador, CBN connects eight municipalities in the RMS: Mata de São João, Pojuca, Dias D’Ávila, Camaçari, Simões Filho, Lauro de Freitas, Candeias and Salvador, impacting 23% of the Bahian population. In three years, more than R$26 million in ISS (Service Tax) were transferred to Bahian municipalities, representing 65.75% of the amount collected in the last three years by Monte Rodovias concessions.

There are approximately 65 thousand vehicles per day that use the CBN highways, significant for interconnecting areas of recognized influence for the economic and social development of the State of Bahia, among them: the Camaçari Industrial Pole, the Port of Aratu and the Industrial Pole of Candeias.

Security and technology

Monte Rodovias’ perspective is to continue improving its services to ensure road safety and the well-being of road users under the management of Concessionária Bahia Norte. Since the beginning of the concession, in 2010, the rates have ensured not only a substantial reduction in travel time due to the investments made, but also in accidents (52%) and mainly fatalities (63%).

One of the main advantages of the granted highways is the 24-hour, free support for users who use them. Drivers in Bahia Norte have five user service bases and pedestrians can use 11 walkways installed on managed stretches, in addition to support along the roads with important services, such as: tow trucks for towing vehicles, ambulances, water tankers , monitoring 24 hours a day, every day of the week. These customer support services can be requested via the emergency telephone number: 0800 031 0009.

CBN has a closed circuit TV, which is being expanded this year, which has 54 active cameras that monitor the 132 km of highways, by the Operational Control Center team, in addition to having operational support from the State Highway Police .

The expectation is that, by the end of the year, this number of cameras will reach 100 devices, ensuring even more efficient monitoring. Thinking about improvements for users, Bahia Norte was a pioneer in the state in adopting the contactless debit system in its stations, seeking to provide practicality and agility in service to make the flow more efficient.

Social and environmental commitment

Acting with social and environmental responsibility reflects not only a market trend, but also a fundamental responsibility in the environment in which Bahia Norte is present. Monte Rodovias has policies and actions that highlight important pillars based on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) since its inception.

Of the 343 direct and 500 indirect jobs created, 69% are for women, who hold 66% of the company’s leadership positions. Another purpose of the company is to contribute to employability and income distribution in all areas of influence of the CBN, with 55% of direct jobs generated in the Metropolitan Region (55%) and 45% in Salvador.

“These policies earned us the UN Women seal”, highlights Luciana Barbosa, People and Management manager at Monte Rodovias, who is proud of the data achieved. “Investing in women is the best way to accelerate economic growth and build more prosperous and equal societies,” she adds.

Dialogue with the 47 communities located close to the highways where it operates is also among its priorities, maintaining an open channel through meetings, forums and online channels. Free health service blitzes are promoted, offering care, preventive exams and guidance on healthy habits, aiming to improve access to health care, especially in more remote areas.

Environmental responsibility is one of the foundations of the company, which seeks to carry out uniform recycling work with associations to reduce waste generation and which participates in actions together with Inema to monitor and preserve fauna and flora.

“We understand that environmental, social and governance responsibility is not just a trend, but a necessary path towards sustainable development. We constantly seek to innovate and act responsibly in all areas of our operations”, comments Greici Vidaletti, Communications and Social Responsibility coordinator at Monte Rodovias.

Free energy market

CBN has also just started the migration to the free electricity market. Since the end of February, four of the six toll plazas have already been operating with energy purchased from the company that has the Green Energy Seal, granted to producers and consumers of clean and renewable energy. The lighting in the squares is being upgraded by replacing the reflectors with sodium vapor lamps with LEDs, which consume less energy and contribute to environmental sustainability.

According to Freire, “these initiatives will bring a significant reduction in energy consumption from non-renewable sources, contributing to better control of environmental impacts, such as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, CO2”.

Among the support projects, the holding is today one of the partners of the Bahia State Infrastructure Secretariat in the Bahia Without Hunger Program. Throughout 2024, 150 tons of food will be donated to extremely poor families in the countryside and in the city, with a commitment to donate 600 tons of food in four years.
